Today at the park I was pushing B on the swing while G played on the slide a few feet away. I'm typically able to keep him in my sight while pushing B and suddenly I see him trip and hit his head on the stairs. I have seen him fall what feels like 1000 times since walking and I ran over when I realized he was bleeding. A lot. I took him over to my bag where I keep a cloth and apply pressure thinking they head wounds typically bleed a lot. When I took cloth off I realized it was deep and wide and I froze. I knew he needed stitches.
I'm so thankful for the moms that sprang into action as I couldn't think. I needed to get him to the hospital and I needed to keep B safe too. One mom called an ambulance. Thankfully the bleeding had subsided enough for me to drive us the 10 minutes to the ER.
We got back pretty quickly and he got five stitches. As soon as we left he was totally normal. A bit more tired, but normal.
I have replayed the scene 100 times today wishing I could have done something to stop it. Even though I know there isn't.
When we got home we enjoyed cookies and milk for lunch while watching sesame street. Here is my big boy recovering.
What a day!

Poor little guy!! I am so sorry but am glad he is doing well. Our little ones are very resilient!
ReplyDeleteHis first battle wound...it's a right of passage =) Hope he heals up quickly! There's nothing you could have done...
ReplyDeleteomgosh I would have fainted. What a champ. Did he cry during the stitching? I don't know what I would have done! Congrats on your pregnancy and so great to hear how you've been doing!
ReplyDeletePoor guy! I know that would have freaked me out!! Glad he's doing OK afterward, though.
